Kampala Youth Advocacy and Development Network through Education for climate change adaptation (CCA) amidst COVID- 19 funded by British council engaged youth in slums of Kinawatta, Kampala for three months to integrate education with climate change adaptation among communities through best practices sharing on coping with COVID 19 pandemic.
The Education for climate change adaptation amidst Covid 19 pandemic project is a community empowerment initiative that is geared towards strengthening organization and community’s capacity to build a resilient society in slums of Kampala through improving access to education services to vulnerable communities especially girls and young women.
The activities implemented included supporting the implementation of Social Action Plans, Community sensitization dialogue between AC champions and duty bearers on covid-19 resilient interventions and practices, Support community youth especially girls to participate in radio talk shows to amplify the voices of young people, Develop, print and disseminate covd19 materials, Training AC champions on how to develop and implement SAPs, Training staff on AC digital delivery approach, Refresher training for the 20 community participants of 2020 AC digital delivery approach and SAPs review considering the revised thematic focus, and documentation and dissemination of project outcomes.
The project reached 400 youth in the slums of Kinawataka with information and capacity building trainings to enhance skills to foster resilience to COVID 19 in the education sector through Carrying out mentorship and refresher training for the participants to improve and furnish on their SAPs and their implementation to enable them develop solutions for their local challenges for their communities that enhance resilience to the impacts of COVID -19 hence increasing access to education services.
